Later this month, Nas will celebrate the 20-year anniversary of his classic debut, illmatic. And while he’ll be interviewed countless times, the veteran MC wasn’t solely responsible for the project’s success. Enter MC Serch and Faith Newman, the pair were responsible for signing Nas. “We were breaking into garages in the Bronx, because counterfeiters had 70,000 cassettes of Illmatic, with a drawing of Nas on a cross, crucified” Search explained.
