XXL revealed their 2014 Freshman list last night with the help of BET. Likely most years, some of the rappers will go on to become starts, others will struggle and the ones in between will idle. But today is a celebratory day and as these MC’s rejoice, we decided to have a little fun with their graduation and prepare superlatives for them.
The Funk Volume artist marks three Freshman picks in a row for the indie label. Benton didn’t immediately draw recognition (he is a Freshman, after all) like Chance The Rapper or Rich Homie Quan, and so, the chorus from the double-click crowd was likely, Who? But Benton has been on his grind and his track, “Skitzo,” has nearly 2 million views on YouTube.
R&B dudes been beefin’ like rapers lately, and A.A. fits the bill with his rift with Trey Songz. But, Alsina is also the only singer on this list and we’re guessing the combo of that and he’s likely to steal any of the other guy’s girls, may have made him loner at this shoot. ‘Who ordered the green tea and tuna melt? Over here.
There’s something about the combination of TDE and Tennessee.
He’s shirtless and named his mixtape, Acid Rap.
We love Vic Mensa, but on this list he may have the most regular guy steez.
That whole lil thing is misleading and we know this is cliche to say the Chicago guys are dangerous, but, we don’t care: real nikkas, all day.
