The 13 Best Gems To Live By Dropped By Dr. Combs During Howard Commencement Speech

Diddy’s Dr. Combs’ heartfelt speech at Howard University’s 2014 commencement is surely hitting the books as one to remember.  I can’t remember who said what at mine, but I’m pretty sure that if I would have listened closely I would have been able to retain a few gems. Howard’s graduating class, however, inevitably brought them home this year. Luckily, Diddy had plenty to offer. Gems on gems…on gems.

I can only hope to come back to Rutgers some day, give a dope speech and have the likes of Mary J. Blige or French Montana in the crowd supporting. According to my man Combs, this is actually very possible. The power of me is skrong.

In just thirty-four minutes, Diddy blessed an audience with a set of self-help guidelines to live by.

    • Gem #1: “It’s time for us to evolve, ya know? We changin’ things out here, ya feel me?”
    • Gem #2: “Today is about the power of you. Do you know how powerful you are?”
    • Gem #3: “The odds were against you making it here today, but guess what? You did it.”
    • Gem #5: “I want you to take the craziest dram you ever had, the one you’re embarrassed to tell anyone about. I want you to make it a reality.”
    • Gem #6: “I don’t want you to dream. I want you to do.”
    • Gem #7: “Now, some of your dreams are gonna take longer than you think. It took me 26 years to get on this stage.”
    • Gem #8: “God works in mysterious ways, ya see. You just gotta pay attention to the signs. They out there.”
    • Gem #9: “You cannot achieve success without failure. Some of my biggest successes come from my biggest failures.”
    • Gem #10: “When you in that darkness, you wanna sit there and wait for the light to come. When you in that darkness, it feels uncomfortable, but you cant wait to sit in that. The only way out is to step forward, to face your fears, to become your own light.”
    • Gem #11: “Don’t be afraid to fail. Be fearless.”
    • Gem #12: “Remember the power of you.”
    • Gem #13: “Can’t stop. Won’t stop.”

Never thought I’d say this, but when I grow up, I’d love to be just like Dr. Sean “Puff Daddy/Diddy/Money Making Mitch” Combs, (with a lot less names) and according to Gems, #2, 6 and 11 it’s only a matter of time.
