Did You Know Kobe Bryant Came Up With Lil Wayne’s Marketing Campaign? That’s How Weezy Tells It.


Lil Wayne has been teasing us, and teasing us, and teasing us with material for his forthcoming album, Tha Carter V. He’s used his popular “Weezy Wednesdays” web series, even managing to release some of the videos actually on Wednesday instead of after midnight. But, he’s also extended the promo to social media, recruiting athletes and their Twitter and Instagram accounts, notably Kobe Bryant and Floyd Mayweather.

How did this come about? Well, KB came from an idea Wayne’s manager had and Floyd was just a phone call to the home.

But what’s so interesting, according to Weezy’s interview with ESPN the Magazine, is that Kobe did more than the standard tweet. The NBA World Champion, known for his bevy of hashtags, laid down one in particular, Carter V season, that resonated with the Young Money boss so much, he decided to mold his entire marketing campaign around that idea. Kobe FTW!

“Carter V Season” was all Kobe. He came up with it. I saw that and thought, That’s dope as hell, so that’s what we’re calling the [album] campaign. I thanked him. Then we thought about Floyd.
