A brand new show on the Music Choice channel, “Chronicles,” will document the lives of hip-hop and R&B artists during their formative years of becoming superstars. The weekly 30-minute show will take an inside look at the lives of artists like 50 Cent, Jason DeRulo, Fat Joe, DJ Cassidy, B.o.B., Daddy Yankee, and Aloe Blacc at crucial points in their careers, prior to blowing up.
On the season premiere, 50 Cent talks about not wanting street cred as an artist and reminisces about how he fell in love with hip-hop as a kid: Juice Crew, Boogie Down Productions – the usual suspects. He discusses being mentored by the late Jam Master Jay and learning about song structure under the Run-DMC legend, as well as his initial label trouble with Colombia, who didn’t understand what kind of artist he wanted to be on his debut album Power Of The Dollar.
He also reveals that leading up to Get Rich Or Die Trying, the big debate at the record label was which single to push first – “If I Can’t” or “In Da Club.” He and Eminem decided beforehand what they wanted it to be. Now it seems like a no-brainer.
Music Choice will air new episodes of “Chronicles” every Tuesday at 8pm ET/PT, and tomorrow you can watch B.o.B.’s episode. For now, learn about 50 Cent’s meteoric rise in the first episode above.
