DJ Clark Kent is known these days for his massive sneaker collection but he has done so much more for hip-hop in his storied career, especially in regards to the careers of Jay Z and the Notorious B.I.G. Kent sat down with Hip Hop Wired for the latest episode of “On The Record” to tell the stories from the OG days when rappers like Jay Z were just starting out. He describes how he discovered Jay Z ten years prior to his big break. The DJ/producer also spoke on his power moves with Damon Dash by signing rap group Original Flavor.
As Biggie’s DJ, Kent had a special hand with the beginning of Junior M.A.F.I.A’s start in the industry. Kent created the instrumental for their first major track “Player’s Anthem,” which was passed up by rappers like LL Cool J and Jay Z. Check out the interview in full here.
