Back in July, The Boombox.com put on a show for the ages. Their “16 Bars” segment usually features MCs like Ab-Soul, Joell Ortiz, and Dilated Peoples spitting exclusive verses, but Black Thought was something entirely different.
The “16 Bars Live” show took place the day before the James Brown biopic Get on Up hit theaters, and Black Thought actually held down a small role in the film as Brown’s saxophonist. So for the occasion, legendary DJ J. Period played strictly James Brown breaks and let Thought go off for at least 45 minutes.
If you need a second to clean up, that’s fine. You read that right. Black Thought over James Brown breaks. No frills. Just dope raps.
Boombox just dropped the footage, so be sure to check it out above. There’s nothing purer than this.
