[EXCLUSIVE] London On Da Track Talks Rich Gang Album, Carter V and Working With Juvenile

London On Da Track

While many would give the title to a certain L.A. DJ, London On Da Track has made a strong case for being the hottest producer of 2014, and we still have two and a half months to go. His dynamic, utterly unique style is on full display with hits like Young Thug and Rich Homie Quan’s “Lifestyle,” T.I.’s “About The Money,” Tyga’s “Hookah,” and a handful of other heaters from the recent Rich Gang mixtape. Now that he’s running with Birdman, he’s working closely with the whole Young Money camp, and earlier this week, he dropped another potential smash: “Take Kare” with Young Thug and Lil’ Wayne.

We spoke to the young hitmaker about what to expect on the Rich Gang Album, who he’s been getting in the lab with, and why he doesn’t use samples. This kid is only getting better.

WL: Congratulations on “Take Kare” dropping. That came out of nowhere.

Nowhere, man. That was a record that leaked, but you know, it’s all good.

Is that the single for the Rich Gang album?

Yeah, that’s the first single off the Rich Gang album…well no, actually the second. We hit ‘em with the “Lifestyle” first, now we hit ‘em with the “Take Kare.”

Is there going to be another Rich Gang mixtape before the album?

To my knowledge, na.

When is the Rich Gang album set to drop?

We don’t have a specific date for it, but November or December some time.

In one of Baby’s Rich Gang Flashy Lifestyle videos, there’s a snippet of a song with Young Thug and Rich Homie Quan where Quan is singing, “She do the most.” Will that be coming out?

Yeah that “She Do The Most” will be on the album, featuring Rich Homie Quan. “She Do The Most” is a great record.

Can we expect any tracks with Young Thug and Drake?

Yeah we got something in the pipeline. As far as on the album, yeah, we should. I can’t tell it right now because it’s probably something they don’t want people to know right now…but yeah, be expecting that for sure.

Me and Drake got something in the works. Not solo – Me, Drake and Juvenile. Juvenile next single featuring Drake called “Show Love” I think, dropping some time this month. Not sure if that’s what it’s called.

Who else are you producing for these days?

2 Chainz, I did the single off his next album, think it’s called “Section.” Gonna be a big record. Got some stuff in with J. Cole, lot more stuff with Rich Homie…lotta people.

What’s your favorite song you’ve made with Young Thug so far?

It’d have to be…”Never Made Love” or “Magnificent.” “Magnificent” is totally left field. There’s nothing that sounds like it. It’s just different for the clubs, so I feel like that “Magnificent” is gonna be the one. Those are both set to be on the Rich Gang album. “Never Made Love” is like a slow jam record and “Magnificent” is for the clubs, so I feel like “Magnificent” is gonna be another #1. Be expecting a lot of great stuff from me and Young Thug, man.

You guys have been hitting the sweet spot every time. The chemistry is crazy.

Yeah…we are the new Snoop and Dre.

When you sit down to make a beat, what are you trying to achieve?

Different man, I just want to be different. I don’t want to sound like nobody. I just go left field with every track and create my own sounds. You know, a lot of people want to use sounds that people already did and want to recycle them. I don’t do that. I do my own stuff. Like I record samples of me saying some type of sample out of my mouth. I don’t want to use no samples. I do everything on my own.

Do you mix your own records?

I mix my own records, but as far as a final mix, I have my boy Miles Walker mix the record for me. But as far as my beats, I mix them myself. Miles did the mixes for “About The Money” and “Lifestyle.” He gonna be mixing everything I do.

Where have you been recording all this Rich Gang material?

Atlanta and Miami….or in the crib. In the closet, that’s where we used to record at. Now we’re in the big boy studios.

Who are some artists you want to work with?

Jay Z, that’s my top artist I want to work with. Keyshia Cole. A lot of pop artists, like Flo-Rida. I want to get in the pop world, man. I want to make beats with Kanye West.

Are there gonna be more singles after “Take Kare” off the Rich Gang album?

I don’t know about that. The whole album is pretty much singles. When we drop the album, probably every song on the album is gonna be a single. I produced number one through 12, so the whole album is produced by me.

Any chance we’ll be hearing you on Carter V?

Of course you’re gonna find that, it’s already in the works. Be on the lookout for that. You’ll find me on Nicki album. The whole Young Money, man. We a family.
