Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine have become quite the dynamic millionaire duo in the music industry. Not long after their epic deal with Apple and their Beats by Dre product, the super producer and former Interscope Records boss have divulged into another business venture that’s set to help a new generation of music entrepreneurs.
The Jimmmy Iovine and Andre Young Academy for Arts, Technology, and the Business of Innovation at the University of Southern California offers numerous courses in visual design, audio design, venture management, technology, communications, and plenty more. It’s inaugural class has already begun with their program running from a new addition to the campus’ Ronald Tutor Campus Center dubbed the “Academy Garage,” an homage to the early beginnings of the average artist in the music business.
The mission statement of the program as per their official website states that the USC Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young Academy for Arts, Technology and the Business of Innovation “will be a transformational presence on one of the nation’s most dynamic university campuses. The focus is on invention and conceptual thinking, drawing on the talents and influences of leaders from across industries to empower the next generation of disruptive inventors and professional thought leaders across a multitude of global industries.”
The exclusive program has accepted up to 25 students this year. However, should the program excel as time goes on, those numbers could rise. The school was originally founded thanks to a $70 million investment given to the university last year.
