Yes, file this under the most unexpected hip-hop news of the week. Berlin rapper Denis Mamadou Gerhard Cuspert, once known as Deso Dogg, really lives the life he talks about – that is, as a new member of ISIS.
Deso recently appeared in a graphic video uploaded by a group called “Deir Ezzore Is Being Slaughtered Silently” showing footage of a mass execution. He holds up the head of a deceased man who he says fought against the Islamic State. The video is out there if you’re sick enough to want to see it, but we’re not, so we won’t share it here.
He calls himself Abu Talha al-Amani now, but the 39-year-old who once went as Deso Dogg released three albums during his short career and even landed a spot touring with DMX in 2006, but after leaving the rap game, he converted to Islam and has apparently never looked back. With a German mother and a Ghanaian father, Deso has attracted the attention of German officials, who are keeping a close eye on his whereabouts. He was last known to have been in Syria; upon arrival, he uploaded the (non-graphic) video below.
Wonder what DMX saw in this guy to bring him on tour. Imagine the conversations they had.
