Author Matthew Trammell got to hang out with the founder of Odd Future and details a regular Sunday afternoon at his family home, which consisted of video games and random awkward arguments with his Tyler’s mom. They also talk about his upcoming fourth studio album, which has no set title or a release date.
The man behind OF’s Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival dives deeper into his childhood while living in Inglewood and how he managed to escape the hood. Later on, he speaks on the status of the original OF crew including Earl Sweatshirt and Frank Ocean’s defection. The print version of the cover story lands in newsstands everywhere December 9th. Check out the cover story here.
On Earl Sweatshirt:
“That’s my nigga,” Tyler says. “We just aren’t as close as we were. It’s kind of weird, but I’m aware and smart enough to know, okay, shit changes. Shit changes, people get older, people’s goals change. As fucking outlandish and outspoken as I am, I don’t like confrontation. I’m not a piece of shit, man. I’m fair to everyone.”
On Frank Ocean:
“He could care less about the spotlight type shit, which is cool. I wish I took his route and just disappeared from social media for the past year,” he sighs. “I got too much shit going on… But that would be so tight.”
With the Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival wrapping up over the weekend, the third annual music festival was definitely one Tyler will remember. Along with rappers like Rick Ross on the playbill, Pharrell even shocked Tyler by bringing out N.E.R.D members Chad Hugo and Shay Haley to perform “Rockstar.” The Skateboard P even revealed a new song with Gwen Stefani on the vocals.
