DJ Drama has a brand new body of work coming soon that he claims will outshine the rest of his catalog. The Gangsta Grillz founder says that he wanted to surpass the success of the first installment of Quality Street Music, which dropped back in 2012. The first single “Right Back” featuring Jeezy and Rich Gang members Rich Homie Quan and Young Thug only tells us that Drama has big plans in store for the album.
“My first album was my best body of work thus far,” Drama told WatchLOUD. “I really want to top that with this new project.”
Not only is Drama prepping the release of his fifth studio album, but the super producer is also busy with his newly-appointed position over at Atlantic Records. Over the past decade, Drama has worked with the best in the industry while coming up from the mixtape game. But now the Atlanta DJ serves as the Vice President of A&R and responsible for consulting and working with rising talent, as well as overseeing studio operations at Means Street Studio.
“Atlantic Records has been good to me man,” said Drama. “I started my major label career with them when I signed initially through Grand Hustle. So to come back in the building years later and as an executive in the A&R department and consultation is good for me.”
Drama also talks about some of the artists he’s currently bumping right now. He says that he’s excited for rappers like Kevin Gates, “CoCo” rapper OT Genasis, and Chicago MC Spenzo. Check out clips from the interview here.
