Warner Bros. Pictures announced that it would be making another bid to compete with the slate of comic book films that their rival Marvel has forecast for the next few years. Greg Silverman, President, Creative Development and Worldwide Production, Warner Bros. Pictures revealed that filming will begin on a Suicide Squad flick to be released in 2016.
According to SuperHeroHype.com Warner has recruited several big names for the film, including Will Smith (The Pursuit of Happyness, Focus) as Deadshot; Tom Hardy (The Dark Knight Rises, upcoming Mad Max: Fury Road) as Rick Flagg; Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street, Focus) as Harley Quinn; Oscar winner Jared Leto (Dallas Buyers Club, Alexander) as the Joker; Jai Courtney (Divergent, The Water Diviner) as Boomerang; and Cara Delevingne (Anna Karenina, upcoming Pan) as Enchantress.
Not including the Men In Black franchise, Smith hasn’t played a comic book style character since 2008’s Hancock. Floyd Lawton aka Deadshot is a hired assassin and enemy of Batman who once planned to supplant The Dark Knight and Robin while they were on vacation.
