After the nominees were announced for the 2015 Grammys, there was one artist in particular who feels disrespected by not receiving a nomination. YG recently stopped by Power 106 in Los Angeles and vented his frustrations with the announcement. He feels like most of the albums that were nominated are wack and that his album My Krazy Life topped all of them.
“I really had the best Rap album of 2014,” YG told Big Boy. “All these rappers gon’ tell you that…I should’ve got a nomination for the Grammys.”
YG went on to speak about what might have been the reason why he wasn’t recognized along with artists like ScHoolboy Q and Iggy Azalea. He knew he wouldn’t win an award because of the things that he raps about in his music like gun violence, weed and his gang affiliation. But he still feels “like it’s a slap in the face.”
“I already knew I wasn’t gonna win a Grammy. I’m like, ‘They not gon’ give me a Grammy but they gon’ nominate me for sure.’ It was just, when I seen some of them albums on there, it was like, I didn’t really get it. I really feel some type of way. I know it got something to do with me being from the streets and representing what I represent and talking about what I talk about on these records.”
On the flip side, YG was recognized by Billboard for the Best Rap Album of 2014 with his smash hits “My Ni**a,” “Left, Right,” & “Who Do You Love.” He was also dubbed one of The Source’s Man of the Year/Rookie of the Year along with frequent collaborators DJ Mustard and Ty Dolla Sign. While it’s unfortunate that YG wasn’t recognized by the Grammys, overall the Compton rapper has had a stellar year. Watch the interview with Big Boy here.
