Director Ava DuVernay has garnered some well-deserved Oscar buzz for her film Selma, which tells the story of the 1965 Selma to Montgomery voting rights marches led by James Bevel, Hosea Williams, and Martin Luther King, Jr. of SCLC and John Lewis of SNCC. The gripping film stars David Oyelowo as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Common as James Bevel, Carmen Eijogo as Coretta Scott King and a host of more A-list talent.
With days until the film’s limited release on Christmas day DuVernay shared some exclusive behind the scenes photos from the set with commentary on each.
“For all those asking, #122519 are our opening dates. Vital days,” she writes. “Inviting everyone to visit SELMA and experience that time, that place. xo.”
