One of HBO’s most successful series “The Wire” continues to be talked about even after it ended back in 2008. With stars like Wood Harris, Idris Elba, and Tristan “Mack” Wilds gracing the set, Tray Chaney had a lot of talent surrounding him for his first television role. Chaney played “Poot,” a rookie drug dealer who eventually moves up the ranks in the game, but ends up ditching the life after several of his friends were killed in the process. But that’s not the character who he was originally supposed to play.
“I think I can speak for the whole cast. We didn’t know. We didn’t know the show would make history,” said Chaney.
Chaney speaks about his time on the show as well as how he got the part. He had initially auditioned for the role of Wee-Bay Brice, which was played by Hassan Johnson. Coming from a dancing background, Chaney believed he wasn’t going to get the call-back. But once the audition got serious, the casting director called and told him that he didn’t get the part of Brice but got the role of Poot instead. He also speaks on what he’s been up to since the series ended. Watch the full interview with DJ Heat here.
