*UPDATE; Gage Garmo passed away shortly after meeting his idol Eminem. He was 17 years old. Garmo met Eminem over the weekend after his family and friends starting a social media campaign to fulfill the terminally ill teen’s last wish. Em visited Garmo at his home in Rochester Hills, Michigan this past Sunday. Garmo passed away early Monday evening and a candlelight vigil was held at his high school the same night. Rest in peace, Gage.
Say what you want about Eminem’s lyrics, but when it comes to interacting with humans, Marshall Mathers is one of a kind.
This past weekend, a terminally ill cancer patient named Gage Garmo was granted his final wish: to meet the Detroit rap star. Garmo, who was given approximately one week to live by doctors, suffers from Osteosarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer. The 17-year-old’s dream was to meet Em, so friends, family, and Twitter users started spreading the hashtag #GetGageGarmoToMeetEminem.
It’s a sobering reminder that no matter what we think about the contents of hip-hop music, the simple fact that it exists has brought joy to people all over the world.
