Statik Selektah Speaks On Mixing Joey Bada$$’ Debut Album


Joey Bada$$, Kirk Knight and Statik Selektah stopped by Red Bull Music Academy Radio for the official Pro Era takeover of the “Headphone Highlights” segment. Throughout the broadcast, they played their favorite records from “Hardknock” to “Christ Conscious,” Joey’s favorite song off his upcoming album B4.DA.$$. While they played their favorite tracks, the guys spoke about the early beginnings of their crew, explained how they got together and where the name Pro Era came from.

Statik Selektah also spoke on his experience with Pro Era. He has been producing tracks for the crew since Joey’s debut mixtape 1999 and even joined them for their Beast Coastal tour in 2013. Statik takes pride in his work on Joey’s upcoming body of work. The Massachusetts DJ mixed the entire album and joins the exclusive list of producers who contributed beats to the project like DJ Premier and Chuck Strangers.

“I was really involved with mixing Joey’s album and I’m really proud of that,” Statik said.

B4.DA.$$ is set to drop via Cinematic Music Group/Pro Era on January 20, which is Joey’s 20th birthday. The 17-track album is set to feature the likes of Action Bronson, BJ The Chicago Kid, Kiesza, Raury and more. Listen to what else Statik had to say on the official Pro Era takeover here.
