The rap world is reeling from the death of ASAP Yams, the architect and driving force behind the A$AP Mob movement. Joey Fatts was one of the young rappers Yams had handpicked for his own Yamborghini record label, and today Fatts released a tribute to Eastside Stevie with “Stevie World.”
The Long Beach rapper spits over a beautiful Denice Williams sample about how Yams put him up in Rocky’s crib, gave him an opportunity to release and record music, and believed in Joey’s talent. Joey wiped his Instagram and is now filling it with pictures and videos of Yams.
Yams, born Steven Rodriguez, was a magnanimous spirit, and the outpouring of love in the wake of his passing only cements his legacy as one of the most important hip-hop figures of the past five years, if not the most important hip-hop figure.
Listen to the saddening song above. Rest in peace Yams.
