The Weeknd was tapped to create the lead single for the official soundtrack of Fifty Shades Of Grey. The single called “Earned It” foreshadows the lustful, S&M-filled relationship that business extraordinaire Mr. Christian Grey invokes with a young college student in the upcoming film based on the book series. The visual features Abel Tesfaye in a dapper suit performing alongside a squad of beautiful women wearing nothing but black straps and pasties.
The visual is erotic to say the least but the song itself isn’t as dirty as one would expect given the film’s plot and The Weeknd’s previous work. “Earned It,” with submissive lyrics like “I’m so used to being used/So I love when you call unexpected…” is ironically one of The Weeknd’s least controversial tracks to date, compared to the abundance of songs he has that center around sex, drugs, alcohol and more sex. “Earned It” is available now but the film Fifty Shades Of Grey won’t hit theaters until Valentine’s day.
