DJ Premier has a busy 2015 ahead of him already. He starts touring his new collaborative project PRhyme with Royce da 5’9″ and Adrian Younge in early February, and now he has a full-fledged band to take care of. Yes, you read that right.
According to a press release from XXL, Preemo has put together a five-piece band, including Brady Watt on bass, Lenny “The Ox” Reece on drums, Takuya Koruda on horns and keys, Corey King on trombone and keys, and Preemo himself on the wheels of steel, that plans to bring new life to classic hip-hop cuts — and maybe some new material. “I put a live band together because I’ve always dreamed of being in one ever since I was a kid,” Premier revealed to XXL. “I can play a little drums, bass, and guitar but not like these guys, so I will stay on the wheels.”
The newly formed troupe will be touching down in Osaka for their first two shows on January 28, before heading to Tokyo to do four shows on January 30th and 31st.
Premier and Royce released PRhyme to critical acclaim back in December and have a deluxe edition coming soon
