D’Angelo Kicks Off Black History Month On “SNL” [VIDEO]

On the first day of Black History Month and hours after the 150th anniversary of the abolition of slavery in the U.S. D’Angelo had a message. In his first appearance on “SNL” since releasing his comeback album Black Messiah, the R&B and soul singer performed two songs from the LP, “Really Love” and “The Charade.”

His performance of the former was appropriately sensual while the latter featured his backup singers wearing “I Can’t Breathe” and “Black Lives Matter” T-Shirts with the singer standing over a chalk outline as he sang: All we wanted was a chance to talk/Stead we only got outlined in chalk /Feet have bled a million miles we’ve walked/ Revealing at the end of the day, the charade.
