The Marvel Cinematic Universe has taken over popular culture and dominated the worldwide box office for close to a decade now. There are fans of all stripes: fans who know origin stories and where things are headed, fans who’ve seen every feature film, short film, TV show, and webisode that the comic book juggernaut has put out, and fans willing to mutilate their faces to look like their favorite characters.
The Daily Mail reports that Henry Damon (pictured above), a 37-year-old man from Venezuela, has undergone some extreme facial surgery to resemble the Red Skull, arch nemesis of Captain America. Damon has had “several sub dermal implants on his forehead,” facial tattoos, and part of his nose cut off, all for the sake of art. He’s even planning on having silicon injections in his face and more red added to complete the look.
The process looks more than a little gruesome, but Damon’s surgeon, Emilio Gonzalez, insists that Damon is as healthy as can be, but has “an extreme taste for body modification.” Frankly, if Damon and his family are willing to go through the medical motions, then I think this is a really cool (though no less disturbing) body mod. Imitation may be the sincerest form of flattery, but do you think this has crossed the line of hero worship?
