90’s kids across the country are losing their minds over the unfortunate future of the Power Rangers. While there’s already a plot to reboot the franchise, a new short film has surfaced that depicts an alternate future for the technicolor, crime-fighting teenagers. Producer Adi Shankar and director Joseph Kahn teamed up to deliver a violent and dark rendition of what happened after the classic television series ended.
The short film, starring James van der Beek and “Battlestar Galactica’s” Katie Sackhoff, describes where Tommy, Jason, Kimberly, Billy, Zack and Trini went after they got involved with an interstellar war that commenced while they were teenagers. When one of the rangers goes rogue, the rest of the crew is taken out one by one in a series of violent bloodbaths. This forces the White Ranger Tommy out of hiding to defend his former team against the force of evil that would eventually come after him.
This isn’t the first time Shankar has created alternate plots to classic franchises. Unlike his other “Bootleg Universe” short films based off The Punisher, Venom and Judge Dredd, the vicious Power/Rangers short will definitely fuel the fire for the upcoming reboot that’s set to hit theaters in the Summer of 2016.
