Raekwon and Ghostface Killah showed the world a trailer for The Purple Tape Files, their documentary about the making of their landmark album Only Built 4 Cuban Linx, at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. Now, they’re ready to crowdfund it into existence, according to Rolling Stone.
Rae and Ghost started a campaign on the site FanBacked to get funding for the film, a process that infinitely intrigued Raekwon. “The album was our vision, and the thought of having anyone but us in the driver’s seat was unthinkable,” Rae told Rolling Stone. “This project is for the fans by the fans, me included. I’m not with the politics and shit, and being put into a position where we even would have to consider anyone’s watered down version wasn’t an option. Only Built 4 Cuban Linx was an honest and authentic project; it’s a must that the film is also.”
Ground floor perks include the usual stickers, copies of the movies, and the like, but starting at $200, they get more interesting.
$200 will get your mixtape reviewed by Rae and Ghost, who will then invite you to their personal studios to help you improve it, $1,000 gets you into every Raekwon show for the next five years, $2,500 gets you studio time with Rae, and $4,000 gets you a whole day with The Chef. Better start saving that change, because the campaign is only going on for 60 days, starting today. Check it out and donate here.
