Common made a few stops around New York City to promote his upcoming film Run All Night with Liam Neeson and Ed Harris. The Chicago rapper made his last stop at “The Daily Show” to talk with Jon Stewart about his new role in the action film. Common stars as Andrew Price who is hired to take out former hitman Jimmy Conlon (Neeson) and his estranged son Mike (Joel Kinnaman) along with his family. Conlon’s former boss Shawn Maguire (Harris) hires Price after the death of his own son Danny (Boyd Holbrook).
Common described it as a classic gangster film, which is the polar opposite of his last film Selma. Stewart also commended Common for his performance of “Glory” with John Legend at this year’s Academy Awards. They spoke about how he felt during the performance and his reaction to winning the Oscar for “Best Song.” He also commented about missing Oprah’s dap as he made his way to the podium.
Before Common made his appearance, Stewart went off on his own tangent on the comments made by the crew of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” about Waka Flocka Flame’s decision to cancel his upcoming show at OU. They proceeded to put the blame on the “Grove Street” rapper for glorifying the N-word in his music, which in turn supposedly causes racist incidents on college campuses.
