This week Yonkers sharp shooters The Lox (go and watch Dame Dash’s new movie Loisaidas to really get that reference) hit us upside the head with a new joint, “Bring It Back.”

As if the audio clip of Public Enemy offering the titular command (snatched from their classic It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back) wasn’t enough, they came through riding some neck-spanning drums and menacing strings as they masterfully flip their sinister brand of signifying.

But when they said “bring it back” they lived it like they talked it, literally resurrecting the feel of this gem from 1995, “Real Live Shit” by K-Def and Larry-O, known together as Real Live.

K-Def is a DJ and production vet from Jersey who has provided classic beats for Monie Love, Tragedy, Positive K, Lords Of The Underground, and more recently Ghostface Killah (“It’s Over”) and Diddy (“We Gon Make It.”)

“Real Live Shit” was featured on their 1996 Big Beat/ Atlantic Records debut The Turnaround: A Long Awaited Drama and had a remix featuring Capadonna, Ghostface Killah, Killa Sin and Lord Tariq.
