Wiz Khalifa’s latest single “See You Again” is blazing up the charts faster than anyone expected, and after dethroning Mark Ronson’s 14-week streak of “Uptown Funk” being #1 on the Hot 100, Wizzle Man has set a new record on Spotify.
On Monday, April 13th, “See You Again” was streamed 4.2 million times in 24 hours in the U.S. It also set the record for the most streams in one week with 21.9 million streams worldwide.
For comparison’s sake, the biggest single from Wiz’s last album, “We Dem Boyz,” currently has 48.5 million streams on Spotify. “See You Again,” which hasn’t even been on Spotify for a month yet, already has 40.2 million streams. The “We Dem Boyz” video, which dropped on Youtube on April 14, 2014, has 95.3 million views as of today. The “See You Again” video, which came out 10 days ago (Apr. 6), has 52.7 million views.
Speaking on the song’s success, Atlantic Records CEO and chairman Craig Kallman said, “This is one of those special moments when all the forces have aligned to create a song that is resonating emotionally with millions around the world. The combination of Wiz’s star power with the introduction of Charlie as a brilliant singer and songwriter is truly magical, striking a nerve with Paul Walker’s legion of fans and the film’s enormous audience.”
