Last night, #CRWN with Elliott Wilson and A$AP Rocky was popping off at Tribeca Film Festival. The A$AP Mob was in attendance as Rocky talked about his upcoming album At.Long.Last.A$AP, what the passing of A$AP Yams means for his crew, and how he’s influenced rappers and fashion brands since getting into the game.
Part one of the full interview will be up here on WatchLOUD this coming Monday, but for now, check out five things we learned from last night’s conversation.
1. Rocky debuted a video called “Beauty And The Beast” featuring an unreleased instrumental of his.
Rocky has been talking about his instrumental album since 2014, and last night we got a sneak preview of what it sounds like. The beat was on some hard Houston Screwed Up type shit, and the video, according to Rocky, was a reference to what it feels like on psychedelics. He should be dropping the full project this year. Watch a short clip below.
2. He said “Wild For The Night” and “Fuckin’ Problems” don’t represent him as an artist.
In the past, Yams revealed that the label made Rocky do “Wild For The Night,” but last night Rocky confirmed that he doesn’t really like those songs. He said kids come up to him singing, “I love bad bitches, that’s my fuckin’ problem,” and he’s not happy about it.
3. Recently, Rocky has been inspired by Earl Sweatshirt and Joey Bada$$.
The A$AP leader talked about being influenced not only by regular people on the street, but other contemporaries like Earl Sweatshirt, Joey Bada$$, Danny Brown, and Action Bronson, to name a few.
4. He says Mos Def and Pusha T have some incredible music coming soon.
Rocky said he’s been working with the original Pretty Flacko and the stuff Mos has coming will blow people away. He also said Pusha T came over to his house and played him some music that sounded like the V.A. rapper was 19 again.
5. An A$AP Mob project is coming this summer.
Towards the end of the night, Rocky referenced a “Cozy Tape” and said we can expect a project from A$AP Mob this summer. He also mentioned that they’ve got “composition notebooks” full of A$AP Yams’ ideas and they plan to execute those ideas moving forward.
