The leader of the HBK Gang IamSu! invaded New York City this past Friday (Apr. 24) for his Eyez On Me Tour. Before Su filled the Marlin Room at Webster Hall with his infectious Bay Area beats, the show opened with Chris Miles, the 15-year-old rapper with pockets filled with potential. For the unfamiliar, Miles got his break two years ago when his entry for “America’s Got Talent” went viral and became a YouTube sensation. Miles performed several of his most recent tracks including a new song with IamSu!
Dave Steezy was next on the mic which was followed by a special set from the beautiful Va$htie. The room continued to fill up while Atlanta’s rising star Rome Fortune hit the stage. The blue-bearded rapper truly got the room amped as he performed songs from his previous mixtapes like Beautiful Pimp and Small VVorld. His energy alone as he circled the stage had the crowd in an uproar.
With his go-to DJ Azure holding down the set, IamSu! hit the stage and was greeted with screams from the crowd. For his first headlining tour, the Bay Area emcee made sure to give his fans exactly what they wanted to hear. Su blessed the crowd with his verses from popular hits like Casey Veggie’s “Backflip”, E-40’s “Function” and fellow HBK Gang member Sage The Gemini’s “Gas Pedal.”
Not only did he play other popular tunes like Loverance’s “Up!” but he also played songs for his day one fans with tracks like the infectious “BackFlip” and the crowd favorite “I Love My Squad” off his first studio album Sincerely Yours. Between busting out his signature dance moves and interacting with fans in the crowd, IamSu’s animated energy made his inaugural headlining show in New York City a complete success.
“It’s been amazing,” IamSu! told WatchLOUD. “It’s been a learning experience and it’s forced me to step up and be a better person and a man, to be a straight shooter. I appreciate this tour for that experience.”
Su closed out the show by playing his new song with Dej Loaf and K. Camp. There’s no word on when that will drop but in the meantime, check out highlights from the concert above.
