Last week, news broke of Vince Staples’ official upcoming Def Jam album, Summertime ’06, dropping June 30th. The announcement came on the heels of “Señorita,” Vince’s pounding new trap-influenced single featuring a well-placed Future sample.
Vince is one of the most exciting new rappers to come out in recent years, and while “Señorita,” produced by trusted Earl Sweatshirt collaborators Christian Rich, signifies his movement into a slightly different direction than before, it looks like there are gonna be a wide range of different sounds on his upcoming full-length debut, thanks to help from No I.D., DJ Dahi, and Clams Casino.
No I.D. is a shoo-in as Def Jam’s VP of A&R and the head of the ARTium imprint that is releasing Vince’s upcoming album, but Dahi and Clams are new to Vince’s formula. Dahi might be able to give Vince some star power, seeing how the producer has made fan favorites out of Kendrick’s “Money Trees” and Drake’s “Worst Behavior.” Clams, on the other hand, could bring Vince back to the internet atmosphere where he started buzzing. The Long Beach rapper’s cutting bars seem a little too harsh for cloudy Clams beats, but time will tell how these collaborations pan out. We’re just hyped to hear them.
Listen to “Señorita” below and look for Vince to drop a visual for the song sooner rather than later.
