Earlier today (May 20), the Spotify music streaming service revealed their new, innovative functions. During their announcement, the Spotify team revealed brand new features and content that will attempt to supplant their competitors like Tidal and Apple. Some of their new features are innovative and definitely surpass expectations of what the average music streaming service offers.
While their team of celebrity endorsements isn’t as star-studded as the Tidal’s, singer D’Angelo, dutch DJ Tiesto, Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer from Comedy Central’s “Broad City” are just a few creatives who have created new partnerships with Spotify. The new Spotify launches in the U.S., U.K., Germany, and Sweden today. Find out what’s new below.
1. Spotify will finally offer podcasts.
This is one of their attempts at trying to one-up their leading competitor Apple. Spotify revealed that they will finally be offering podcasts to their music platform, which include music and news.
2. There will be a plethora of new video content.
Spotify will be offering video clips of shows like Comedy Central’s “Broad City” and two of the shows stars, Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson, appeared on stage to endorse the new video platform. They also revealed their plans for original video content built around music like “Dance Move Of The Day” by Amy Poehler and upcoming projects with artists like Tyler the Creator.
3. TV and media outlets are supporting their video content platform and will most likely stream all of their content.
Major cable news networks such as NBC, BBC, NBC, ABC, and CBS Radio have pledged their support for Spotify’s new video platform and will stream video clips of their content. TV channels like Comedy Central MTV, E!, TeamCoco, and Adult Swim will be streaming their shows as well. Other publications like Conde Nast brands (GQ, Vogue, Wired), Elite Daily, and TED will also be working with the streaming service to stream their content.
4. They’re using technologically to integrate music into our everyday lives.
While Spotify already works with apps like Algoriddim’s DJay, in an effort to compete with music streaming sites like Songza, they have developed brand new technology to help users choose the perfect song to fit the their mood. With their new and improved partnership with like Nike+ and Runkeeper, Spotify will be able to help runner’s pick music from their Spotify playlists on the respective running apps. Their new “Running” category has the ability to detect your speed and select specific songs that match your “tempo.” When your momentum changes, the music will change to fit your speed and mood. They’ve also worked directly with the music industry’s top artists like, singer D’Angelo and house DJ Tiesto, to curate music for their customized playlists or, in their words, “the soundtrack of your life.”
