News has surfaced today that Robert Diaz, known to many as the battle rapper Pumpkinhead, passed away today. Details aren’t known yet, but producer Marco Polo acknowledged it on Twitter:

The Brooklyn rapper had his first big break with the 1997 single “Dynamic,” which later got a remix from the World Famous Beat Junkies. He picked up a pen after hearing Dana Dane’s “Nightmares” and was inspired by Redman, Leaders of the New School, and Dougie Fresh. He recorded with Jean Grae as part of O.B.S. (Original Blunted Soldiers), was an important member of Brooklyn Academy, and later released the well-received Orange Moon Over Brooklyn LP in 2005.
