Anomalies Rap Crew Calls Out Shia LaBeouf For Stealing His “Freestyle”

See, this is why you can’t be a tourist with this hip-hop shit. The better part of a year—and the last few days—has been spent discussing cultural appropriation in its various forms, but we still let shit slide like Chutes N Ladders.

A video of actor Shia LaBeouf rapping has been making the rounds on the web and outlets have been clamoring to fellate him for his “skills.” It’s not clear when it was shot but the Transformers actor is huddled somewhere in the woods rhyming in a circle of onlookers. Before we even get into this next part, if you watched this and your first thought was that “he’s better than most of the people out now” you clearly don’t listen to enough hip-hop to make that claim. And this is obviously your first time visiting this site because we’ve been putting you on to talent 20Xs as good since forever.

Now, with that said. MC and producer Pri The Honey Dark called out LaBeouf for pilfering part of his rhyme from her Anomalies crew.

At the the 2:23 mark in his video LaBeouf hushes the crowd and says “The rare commodity, the quality is what it’s gotta be, and my philosophy is farther than what your eyes can see.

However, on the 1999 track “Perfectionist” you can clearly hear Helixx spit at the 45 second mark, “I recon you want more of that rare commodity/the quality is what it’s gotta be/ and my philosophy is much farther than what your eyes can see.”

Later on in their track you can hear the “Gas mask/last laugh” punchline as well. Listen to it below.

The Anomalies is a hip-hop collective that includes MCs, DJs and breakers. The core members include emcees Helixx, Pri the Honey Dark, Invincible, Big Tara and DJ Kuttin Kandi.  It doesn’t even surprise me that LeBouf would commit a lyric from an underground rap crew to memory because Daniel Radcliffe and news reporters are out here doing Blackalicious Karaoke with “Alphabet Aerobics” making people who don’t listen to rap wet their pants. For all we know the whole “freestyle” is stolen. This is what they do! They take things you ignore or forgotten about then flip it like its theirs.  But I’m sleep though.
