Akon’s international conscience is no secret, especially in the wake of his campaign to bring electricity to millions of African homes. Next week he’ll be bringing his spirit to Atlanta to host the city’s inaugural edition of The Passport Experience Festival this Sunday, July 19.
According to a press release, the festival, created by DJ Fully Focus and taking place in Atlanta’s Centennial Olympic Park, will feature artists from around the globe, including reggae artist Gyptian, Nigerian singer Timaya, Walshy Fire from Major Lazer, The Ying Yang Twins, and many more. Fully Focus explained the decision to bring the festival to a city whose international population is close to 735,ooo:
“What makes PXP Fest unique is that everyone belongs here, and we’re all equal,” says Fully Focus. “We celebrate diversity & cultural pride. Nowhere else can you get all your favorite genres on one stage. It’s been tailored for the open-minded music fan. It’s a place where you can bring your diverse circle of friends & family and there’s something for everyone. It’s the only place where you get to travel the world without a visa & the only limitation is your imagination.”
A portion of every ticket sold will go toward Akon’s Lighting Africa campaign.
