Last night Kanye West and Steve McQueen showed up for a surprise appearance at the unveiling of West’s new nine-minute video “All Day / I Feel Like That,” both of which are songs set to be on Kanye’s upcoming album.
The video, which took only three takes to shoot in an interior dockyard near London, features West making sharp movements while the camera tries to follow him for the first part before he collapses exhausted for the second part.
West and McQueen took in part a conversation with LACMA director Michael Govan in which McQueen, the video’s director, said he asked West to “beat himself up” prior to filming the video in order to give Yeezy a tired look. West discussed pieces of art that have inspired him recently (Matthew Barney’s “River of Fundament,” the Palazzo Fortuny in Venice, McQueen’s 2011 film “Shame” starring Michael Fassbender) and talked about how few true artists are left in the music industry today.
