Ratking’s Producer Sporting Life Announces Solo Album

We’ve told you about the futuristic throwback sound of Ratking, New York City’s vibrant rap trio. Wiki is the word-smushing MC that leads the group and Hak is the crooning lost soul, but you could say it’s producer Sporting Life that gives the group its unique sound. Now he’s slated to drop his first ever solo album.

The album is called 55 5’s (named after the drum machine on the cover) and it’s dropping September 18 via R&S Records, based out of Belgium. Impose reports that the album will be 10 instrumental tracks influenced by artists ranging from Aphex Twin (who released an album on R&S back in ’94) to Arca. Sporting Life, government name Eric Adiele, apparently drew inspiration from fan-made basketball compilations while making the record.

55’s will be released digitally and in a limited run of 300 cassettes. Pre-order it here, and watch Sporting Life’s Boiler Room set above. Plus, peep his Soundcloud to hear his older work.
