Prince was in Minneapolis for a meet and greet last night, and he talked about the cost artists pay signing to a label versus starting something on their own.
“Record contracts are just like — I’m gonna say the word – slavery,” he told a small group of journalists at Paisley Park studios. “I would tell any young artist … don’t sign.”
Prince is releasing his new album HitNRun exclusively on Tidal, and he spoke about the cost Jay Z paid to start his streaming service. “Once we have our own resources, we can provide what we need for ourselves,” said Prince. “Jay Z spent $100 million of his own money to build his own service. We have to show support for artists who are trying to own things for themselves.”
