British street artist turned new-age graffiti entrepreneur Banksy has been causing controversy from his isolated bunker for over 20 years. His blunt social commentary through guerrilla art projects is recognized all over the world, and this time he’s got a bone to pick with Disneyland.
Banksy’s latest installation Dismaland opened this morning in Weston-super-Mare, UK, complete with a oil spill-themed mini-golf course and distorted Little Mermaid statue perched in front of a dilapidated Cinderella’s Castle. Banksy’s also managed to book some acts to perform at the exhibition, including Run The Jewels, Peanut Butter Wolf, Massive Attack, and Pussy Riot.
Dismaland is open until September 27, but if you can’t make it across the pond, here are some pictures to give you an idea:
This is the second time Banksy has done a project revolving around the all-powerful Disney corporation; the first being placing an inflatable doll dressed like a Guantanamo Bay inmate at the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad ride at Disneyland proper in 2006.
