Marvel’s Luke Cage Netflix Series Gets A New Villain & Synopsis

Luke-Cage

Marvel’s deal with Netflix has been paying off handsomely if the success of Daredevil is to be believed. With A.K.A.  Jessica Jones just finishing filming and season 2 of Daredevil just starting, news and rumors are starting to trickle in about the third show in Netflix’s canon: Luke Cage. Heroic Hollywood got some potential scoops on the show, which is set to begin production in New York City next month, including a synopsis and some major character drops.

The leaked and unconfirmed synopsis reads as:

“Luke Cage is a former gang member who is framed for a crime. In prison, he volunteers for a medical experiment that goes awry, giving him super strength and bulletproof skin. Using his newfound powers, Cage escapes and becomes a hero for hire. His archenemy is Willy Stryker, a former childhood friend from Harlem. The two committed petty crimes together, and both fell for the same woman, Reva Connors, which led to their eventual falling out. It was Stryker who framed Cage for a drug deal that sent him to prison.”

Neither Diamondback nor Reva Conners have been cast yet. This news comes on the heels of the show bringing on Alfre Woodard to play the role of Minetta, “a powerful woman in local politics who will have an impact on Luke Cage’s life,” just last week. Many people suspect that she’ll be playing the villain Black Mariah, but we’ll see where all of this goes from here. Mike Colter is starring as the titular hero.
