Uncle Luke recently stopped by the WatchLOUD HQ to talk about a myriad of topics, and when we asked him about the importance of writing your own bars, he said it never mattered in the first place.
“People use writers all the time,” said Luke. “The first time I met Missy Elliott, this publisher introduced me to Missy and said, ‘Man I got this great writer. She wrote all these great songs for SWV,’ and I was like, ‘Wow!'”
But when we pointed out that R&B has historically been considered different from hip-hop when it comes to ghostwriting, Luke was quick to play down the separation – thanks to Kanye West. “It used to be a difference…before Kanye West. Rappers wasn’t wifing all these hoes. Rappers would be secure with their woman.”
