At the VMA’s this past Sunday, Macklemore performed his messy new “Downtown” single and brought out Grandmaster Caz, Melle Mel, and Kool Moe Dee to perform their short part of the song. Some dug it, others didn’t. Big Daddy Kane, for one, loved it, and he took to Instagram yesterday to express his support for the move.
“We don’t acknowledge our own & get mad when another color does,” said Kane on Instagram. “Now if one of them passes, then we wanna post shit about them, say RIP & get t-shirts with their picture. FOH!!!!!!! Learn about your history & preserve it now. If not, SHUT THE FUCK UP!!! To me this is about real pioneers getting recognition in today’s society.”
