Author/essayist Ta-Nehisi Coates has penned many a lengthy piece about race in America, including his letter to his son Between The World And Me. But now, he’ll be taking his writing prowess to a new place: Marvel Comics.
The New York Times revealed today that Coates (who is a comic book fan to begin with) will be penning the upcoming Black Panther comic, a year-long story called A Nation Under Our Feet that pits T’Challa against a superhuman organization called the People. Not only is Coates on board, but the Black Panther will also be receiving his own hip-hop variant cover, an homage to Jay-Z’s The Black Album. Marvel continues to throw the gauntlet down by hiring one of America’s best writers. Read NYT’s extensive piece here.
