J.J. Abrams Gives A Star Wars Shoutout To The Beastie Boys

Star Wars movie might be the last place you’d expect to see a Beastie Boys reference (or a hip-hop reference of any kind), but The Force Awakens is set to feature one thanks to director J.J. Abrams. Abrams is such a huge Beastie Boys fan, he used “Sabotage” in the first Star Trek film, and now he’s taking his love to another level.

A new character being introduced in The Force Awakens this holiday season named Ello Asty is directly named after the Beastie Boys 1998 album Hello Nasty, and his chinstrap is rumored to say “Born To Ill” in Aurebesh (one of the many, many different languages in the Star Wars universe). It’s likely that we’ll have to wait until December to see whether or not he plays much of a role in the film, but if not, then we have another cool easter egg to look out for.
