Keeping track of all the new music that drops over the course of the week can be a real pain, but the New Beat Roundup exists so you don’t have to. Check out some of the best songs falling out of the sky this week below.
Bobby Ross Avila ft. Jasiri X – “No Apology”
This ode to continually falling Black bodies and the Black Lives Matter movement is the first track off of Grammy-winning producer/musician Bobby Ross Alvia’s upcoming Beats, Riots and Lives EP. Between the sweeping music and MC Jasiri X’s blunt and reflective bars, this song gets everything right that the video for Chi-Raq’s “WGDB” got so, so wrong. Give it a listen below.
Rapper Big Pooh x Nottz – “Preach”
Virginia MC Big Pooh has been busy since putting out projects with producer Apollo Brown this past year, and now he’s linked up with Nottz for the Home Sweet Home LP, which just dropped today. The next single from the project, “Preach,” has Pooh sounding hungrier than he’s sounded in a while over some gospel-inspired production from Nottz. If the rest of this album sounds as good as “Preach” does, then we’re truly in for some home-cooked goodness.
Sheek Louch ft. Ghostface Killah – “I Luv It”
When he’s not tearing things down with The LOX, Sheek Louch is always on his own grind. His Silverback Gorilla 2 LP, the sequel to 2008’s first installment, is coming on December 4, and the red carpet’s being rolled out with Louch and Ghostface Killah trading fiery bars over some Shroom production on “I Luv It.” Sheek and Jadakiss, who’s finally releasing Top 5 Dead or Alive on November 20, are about to have the end of the year all messed up.
Pusha T – “Untouchable”
Surely, Pusha T has a ton of music to get off his chest before he assumes his new position as president of G.O.O.D. Music, and the first single out of the gate is this crispy Timbaland-produced joint. Push still has *bars* (“My breakdown game bought me 8 Mile fame/Selling M&M’s to him and Em”) Whenever “King Push” is coming out, it’s not coming soon enough. More, please.
Masta Ace – “GMO”
Guitar twangs are hardly the kind of production you’d expect from a Masta Ace song, but the Brooklyn MC is spitting proper over just that. “GMO” is one of two bonus tracks being featured on the reissue of 2004’s A Long Hot Summer, and it’s full of lyrical gems (“You got the blues like a lonely Crip/Don’t be a one-trick pony with a corny trick”) for days.
Torae ft. Pete Rock – “Get Down (Dirty)”
Torae’s been busy with The Tour Guide on Sirius XM and has been relatively quiet on the music front since dropping the Barrel Brothers collaborative LP with Skyzoo last year. His next project Entitled is slated for release sometime soon, and the first single, featuring production from the legend Pete Rock, is here to rock those eardrums until the album drops.
