*UPDATE* Tribe hit the stage with all eyes on them last night (November 13) and completely tore the house down with a little help from The Roots. You can see the excitement in Jimmy Fallon’s face as he announces that they’re back on TV for the first time in over 15 years, and the audience reaction is palpable. Watch “Can I Kick It?” below.
We’ve heard that A Tribe Called Quest wouldn’t be playing anymore live shows together for the better part of two decades now, yet they keep finding reasons to re-converge on the paths of rhythm.
This morning (November 11), NBC announced that Q-Tip, Phife Dawg, Ali Shaheed Muhammad, and even Jarobi White will be performing on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon this coming Friday (November 13) in honor of the 25th anniversary of their debut album People’s Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm. The special edition reissue of the landmark album, featuring remixes from Pharrell, J. Cole, and Cee-Lo Green, is also out on Friday.
Seeing as how The Roots are Fallon’s backing band and drummer/bandleader Questlove’s ties to Tribe, particularly Tip, this promises to be a blowout show for the ages. The group has performed together sporadically since their breakup in 1998, including an appearance at Rock The Bells in 2004 and their most recent appearance being the opening slot for Kanye West during the New York stops on his Yeezus Tour in 2013. Tribe can also be seen together at the Santos Party House this Saturday November 14 for their official anniversary party.
