Could Chance The Rapper Be Dropping His Next Mixtape On SNL?

*UPDATE* NBC announced today that Chance The Rapper will be the musical guest on Saturday Night Live on December 12, making him the first independent musician to ever grace the stage. As if that isn’t exciting enough, Chance enticed us all with this tweet earlier this evening. Could he finally be ready to unveil his third project?

Chance The Rapper is in the midst of one of independent music’s wildest hot streaks. He puts out entire albums worth of material for free, doles out guest features, tours extensively and sells out venues with The Social Experiment, and *still* finds time to host open mic events for high school kids in his hometown of Chicago.

Anticipation for the followup to his 2013 breakout project Acid Rap has been through the roof ever since Acid first dropped, and outside of Donnie Trumpet and The Social Experiment’s Surf that dropped this summer and a few loosie singles and gust features, Chance has been quiet when it comes to new music. Tonight, that’s gonna change when he premieres a new song, featuring none other than Stephen Colbert.

Earlier today (October 26), Chano took things a step further when he tweeted this out:

He recently sat down with Hot 97 to talk about everything from new music to his newborn daughter and revealed that he has a new project he’s working on. After the first of two NYC shows on his Family Matters Tour, Chance took a photo with Jay-Z & Beyoncé at the show and used the hashtag #ANGELS. With all the buildup and the tour just under halfway complete, would Chance have it in him to drop whatever his new project is tonight after he debuts the song with Colbert? Time will tell, but for now let’s all vibe on the fact that Chance The Rapper and Stephen Colbert will be on a track. Together. Doing God knows what.
