Nicki Minaj Does A Powerful Reading of Maya Angelou’s “Still I Rise”

Last night A&E held a TV special called Shining A Light: A Concert for Progress on Race in America, and they picked Nicki Minaj to read Maya Angelou’s famous 1978 poem “Still I Rise.” They couldn’t have nabbed a better artist for the occasion.

“Does my sassiness upset you? Why are you beset with gloom? ‘Cause I walk like I’ve got oil wells pumping in my living room” are some especially poignant lines coming from a woman as controversial as Nicki. Watch the whole thing above.
