Afro Samurai 2: Revenge of Kuma Officially Pulled From Stores

*UPDATE 2* In an interview with CGMagazine released yesterday (November 20) developer Versus Evil revealed Afro Samurai 2: Revenge of Kuma has been pulled from online stores and everyone who bought the 3-episode pack will be refunded. Evil described the game as a “failure,” saying that the planned second and third episodes of the game won’t see the light of day, thanks to the abysmal reception to the first episode, released back in October. So if you, like me, have been searching for it on the Playstation Online Store, Xbox Live Arcade, or Steam and have been coming up empty-handed, that’s why. RIP.

*UPDATE: We officially have a release date. Sony revealed earlier today (September 10) that PS4 players can take Kuma for a spin on September 22, where they can also get the entire Trilogy bundle for 20% off, or 30% off if you’re a Playstation Plus subscriber. XBOX One and PC dates have yet to be revealed. Check out the new music video for Visual Eyez’s song “Deadly Identities” that doubles as a trailer.*

Based on the manga of the same name, Afro Samurai has sustained a cult following in the anime world ever since it first premiered in 2007; a market that got to take the power of Afro into their hands when the eponymous game launched in 2009. Six years and a full-length sequel movie later, Afro is heading back to consoles and PC with Afro Samurai 2: Revenge of Kuma.

Wu-Tang Clan’s The RZA, who’s been heavily involved in music for the series since the beginning, sat down with David Robinson, president of developer Redacted Studios, to talk about some of the features coming to this new game, which focuses around Kuma, Afro’s former friend turned cyborg enemy. Robinson and RZA detail the gameplay, which involves picking and choosing moves Mega Man-style, and simultaneously reveal that the game will be split into 3 volumes, which will each be 3.5 hours long.

Robinson and musician Roberto “Visualeyes” McCoy also started a contest for up-and-coming producers to have their music featured in the game, according to AllHipHop.

Afro Samurai 2: Revenge of Kuma will be available for PS4, XBOX One, & PC at the end of the month. We can always use some more hack-n-slash action in our lives, so bring it on!
