2015 is no doubt chock full of great people and moments in all aspects of culture, and Time Magazine is gearing up to crown its annual Person of the Year. Hip-hop royalty Drake and Nicki Minaj worked their way onto the list this year, joining other possible candidates like Stephen Colbert, Amy Schumer, and Adele.
Outside of the fact that every MC and their mother seemed to drop projects somewhat out of the blue this year, hip-hop still had a benchmark 2015. Drake emerged victorious – and virtually unscathed – from a summer-long battle with Philadelphia MC Meek Mill. His mixtape/album If You’re Reading This, It’s Too Late went platinum earlier this year, his single “Hotline Bling” has slowly turned into the Sad Boy’s National Anthem, and he *still* has the world waiting on its hands and knees for his next album Views From The 6.
Nicki hadn’t been slouching this year, either. She spent the majority of 2015 touring her latest project The Pinkprint, brought awareness to race and gender issues with her very public dragging of Miley Cyrus and MTV before and during the VMAs, and she’s continuing to ink endorsement deals and push her brand.
Both MCs have made incredible strides, both personally and for the culture, so it’d be wild to see either one of them show up on Time’s cover at the end of the year. Click here to cast your vote by December 4.
